The exam
What is ACCA?
ACCA is the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants Qualification, a professional exam (Worldwide, with large uptake in the UK, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Africa and the Middle East). A staged qualification with Applied Knowledge, Applied Skills and Strategic Professional levels, all examined by computer. Early papers use objective questions; later papers combine objective items with constructed-response tasks in spreadsheets and word processors, and the strategic level uses case-study examinations. Candidates also complete an ethics and professional skills module and practical experience to qualify. Exemptions are available for relevant degrees.
Who takes it: Aspiring accountants and finance professionals, including commerce graduates and working professionals, who want a globally recognised accountancy qualification.

How to prepare
Studying for ACCA, step by step
01
Prioritise
Constructed-response papers are marked for professional presentation and application to the scenario, not just for technical correctness.
02
Practise
Practise in the computer-based environment with spreadsheet and word-processing tools, since formatting and speed matter under time pressure.
03
Avoid the traps
Build knowledge in order; Financial Reporting and Audit assume the earlier papers, and gaps resurface painfully at Strategic Professional.
04
Ask, then watch
Type or say a topic in your own words; the tutor plans a storyboard, one picture per idea, and explains it step by step.
05
Interrupt and check
Say "wait, why?" mid-explanation and it answers on the picture; a checkpoint question ends every lesson.
06
Your papers
Upload past papers and notes so the practice follows the exam, and use Test Lab for graded tests.
Ask it anything
Questions ACCA students ask
- Explain IFRS 16 lease accounting for Financial Reporting.
