The exam
What is NDA?
NDA is the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination, a university entrance exam (India). A written examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission with a Mathematics paper and a General Ability Test, the latter combining English with general knowledge across sciences, history, geography and current events. Questions are objective with negative marking. Candidates who clear the written stage face the multi-day Services Selection Board process of psychological tests, group tasks and interviews, followed by a medical examination. Physical fitness is assessed alongside academics.
Who takes it: Unmarried young men and women who have completed or are completing Class 12 and want officer training for the Indian Army, Navy or Air Force.
What it tests
NDA subjects and sections
- Mathematics
- English
- Physics
- Chemistry
- General Science
- History
- Geography
- Current Events
Ask any topic from any of these and the tutor pitches the lesson to the exam, with the terms and the depth it expects.
How to prepare
Studying for NDA, step by step
01
Prioritise
Mathematics follows the Class 11 and 12 syllabus but demands speed, so drill standard problems until you solve them without hesitation.
02
Practise
The general ability paper rewards breadth; keep a running notebook of science basics and current events rather than deep study of any one area.
03
Avoid the traps
Start preparing for the Services Selection Board stage early, because it tests personality and teamwork that cannot be revised in a week.
04
Ask, then watch
Type or say a topic in your own words; the tutor plans a storyboard, one picture per idea, and explains it step by step.
05
Interrupt and check
Say "wait, why?" mid-explanation and it answers on the picture; a checkpoint question ends every lesson.
06
Your papers
Upload past papers and notes so the practice follows the exam, and use Test Lab for graded tests.
Ask it anything
