Osmosis and diffusion, Taught not just answered.

A real-time, 1:1 lesson on Osmosis and diffusion: an AI teacher explains it out loud while it visualizes every step. Interrupt it, ask why, and it checks you got it, in 26 languages.

The idea

What is Osmosis and diffusion?

Osmosis and diffusion are the passive ways substances move across cell membranes without using energy. Diffusion is the net movement of particles from where they are more concentrated to where they are less, down a concentration gradient, as with oxygen entering a cell. Osmosis is diffusion of water through a partially permeable membrane, from a dilute solution to a more concentrated one. In animal cells osmosis can cause bursting or shrinking; in plant cells the wall keeps the cell turgid or lets it become plasmolysed.

Where it appears: Class 9 and 11 CBSE and ICSE, GCSE and A-level, IB Biology, AP Biology, NEET.

Where learners get stuck

Why Osmosis and diffusion is hard

Learners say water moves towards the higher water concentration instead of towards the higher solute concentration, and they confuse concentration of solute with concentration of water.

The picture a good explanation starts with: A U-tube split by a partially permeable membrane, dilute solution on one side and concentrated on the other, with water molecules crossing and the concentrated side's level rising.

A lesson, step by step

How a lesson on Osmosis and diffusion goes

  1. 01

    Ask

Type or say "Which way does water move in osmosis?" in your own words, in any of 26 languages.

  2. 02

    Plan

The tutor plans a storyboard, one picture per idea, starting with a U-tube split by a partially permeable membrane, dilute solution on one side and concentrated on the other, with water molecules crossing and the concentrated side's level rising.

  3. 03

    Explain

It explains Osmosis and diffusion out loud while the picture builds step by step, pitched to your level (Class 9 and 11 CBSE and ICSE and up).

  4. 04

    Interrupt

Say "wait, why?" or type a doubt: it stops, answers over the picture, and carries on. Ask for a different explanation any time.

  5. 05

    Check

A checkpoint question makes sure the idea landed, and Test Lab keeps the practice going.

  6. 06

    Your notes

Upload a PDF or a photo of your class notes or a past paper and the lesson follows your textbook's terms.

Ask it anything

Questions learners ask about Osmosis and diffusion

  • Which way does water move in osmosis?
  • Why do red blood cells burst in pure water?
  • What is the difference between osmosis and active transport?

Any of these, or your own, typed or spoken. The tutor answers on the picture and adapts to how well you are following.

Questions

Asked, Answered

Can LetMeTeach explain Osmosis and diffusion?

Yes. Ask in your own words and the tutor plans a lesson on Osmosis and diffusion: it starts with a U-tube split by a partially permeable membrane, dilute solution on one side and concentrated on the other, with water molecules crossing and the concentrated side's level rising. Then it explains each step out loud as the picture builds, stops when you say "wait, why?", and ends with a checkpoint question.

Where does Osmosis and diffusion come up?

Class 9 and 11 CBSE and ICSE, GCSE and A-level, IB Biology, AP Biology, NEET. The lesson is pitched to your level and the exam or curriculum you follow, and you can upload your own notes or past papers so it uses your textbook's terms.

Can I learn Osmosis and diffusion in my own language?

Yes. LetMeTeach teaches in 26 languages and plans the lesson in the language you choose rather than translating an English one, so the terms match what your textbook says. The Free plan includes 7 hours a month with no card.
