The exam

What is CBSE Class 10?

CBSE Class 10 is the Central Board of Secondary Education Secondary School Examination (Class 10), a school board exam (India and CBSE-affiliated schools abroad). Written board examinations in each subject set by the board and marked externally, combined with internal assessment from the school. Mathematics is offered at Standard and Basic levels. Papers mix objective questions, short answers, case-based questions and longer answers, with growing weight on competency-based questions that apply a concept to a new situation. From 2026 the board offers a second optional sitting so students can improve selected subjects.

Who takes it: Students in CBSE-affiliated schools at the end of secondary school, who use the result to choose a stream for Classes 11 and 12.

How to prepare

Studying for CBSE Class 10, step by step

  1. 01

    Prioritise

Work through the board's sample papers and marking schemes, because examiners award marks for specific steps and keywords, not just the final answer.

  2. 02

    Practise

Competency-based questions reward reading the case carefully and linking it to a concept, so practise explaining why a method works, not only how.

  3. 03

    Avoid the traps

Do not neglect Social Science and the languages; they are scoring subjects that lift the overall result when Mathematics or Science wobbles.

  4. 04

    Ask, then watch

Type or say a topic in your own words; the tutor plans a storyboard, one picture per idea, and explains it step by step.

  5. 05

    Interrupt and check

Say "wait, why?" mid-explanation and it answers on the picture; a checkpoint question ends every lesson.

  6. 06

    Your papers

Upload past papers and notes so the practice follows the exam, and use Test Lab for graded tests.

Ask it anything

Questions CBSE Class 10 students ask

  • Explain the trigonometric identities and how to prove them.
  • Why did the Non-Cooperation Movement end?
  • Teach me the reactivity series with examples from the textbook.
