The exam
What is IB Diploma?
IB Diploma is the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, a school leaving exam (Worldwide (international and national schools)). Students study six subjects drawn from the subject groups, some at higher level and some at standard level, plus a core of Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay and creativity, activity and service. Each subject combines externally marked written papers with internally assessed work such as lab investigations, oral commentaries or explorations. Marks from subjects and the core combine into a total diploma score used by universities worldwide.
Who takes it: Students aged roughly sixteen to nineteen at IB World Schools across the globe who want a broad, internationally recognised qualification for university entry.
What it tests
IB Diploma subjects and sections
- Studies in Language and Literature

How to prepare
Studying for IB Diploma, step by step
01
Prioritise
Internal assessments are spread across two years and carry real weight, so plan them early instead of letting them collide with exam revision.
02
Practise
Learn the command terms such as evaluate, outline and justify; the examiner marks against them, and misreading one loses marks on a correct idea.
03
Avoid the traps
Higher level subjects demand independent reading beyond class notes, especially in sciences and economics, where data-response questions test transfer.
04
Ask, then watch
Type or say a topic in your own words; the tutor plans a storyboard, one picture per idea, and explains it step by step.
05
Interrupt and check
Say "wait, why?" mid-explanation and it answers on the picture; a checkpoint question ends every lesson.
06
Your papers
Upload past papers and notes so the practice follows the exam, and use Test Lab for graded tests.
