Prepare for Matric (NSC) with a visual teacher

National Senior Certificate: every topic on the syllabus, explained out loud with live visuals by a 1:1 AI teacher that stops when you interrupt and checks you got it.

The exam

What is Matric (NSC)?

Matric (NSC) is the National Senior Certificate, a school leaving exam (South Africa). Learners take a set of subjects including two languages, mathematics or mathematical literacy, life orientation and electives. Assessment combines school-based marks accumulated during the year with final written examinations set by the Department of Basic Education or the Independent Examinations Board. Papers mix short questions, calculations and essays. Results are reported as achievement levels, and specific combinations determine eligibility for bachelor's, diploma or higher certificate study.

Who takes it: Grade 12 learners in South Africa in public and independent schools, who need the certificate for university, college or employment.

What it tests

Matric (NSC) subjects and sections

  • Home Language
  • First Additional Language
  • Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy
  • Life Orientation
  • Physical Sciences
  • Life Sciences
  • Accounting
  • History

Ask any topic from any of these and the tutor pitches the lesson to the exam, with the terms and the depth it expects.

How to prepare

Studying for Matric (NSC), step by step

  1. 01

    Prioritise

Decide between mathematics and mathematical literacy with your intended degree in mind, since many programmes require mathematics for entry.

  2. 02

    Practise

Past papers with memoranda from the department are the main revision tool; practise exam-style answers and check how marks are allocated.

  3. 03

    Avoid the traps

Language papers carry heavy weight; practise comprehension, summary and essay writing in both your home and first additional languages.

  4. 04

    Ask, then watch

Type or say a topic in your own words; the tutor plans a storyboard, one picture per idea, and explains it step by step.

  5. 05

    Interrupt and check

Say "wait, why?" mid-explanation and it answers on the picture; a checkpoint question ends every lesson.

  6. 06

    Your papers

Upload past papers and notes so the practice follows the exam, and use Test Lab for graded tests.

Ask it anything

Questions Matric (NSC) students ask

  • Explain Euclidean geometry proofs for Paper 2.
  • Teach me how to do a cash flow statement for Accounting.
  • How do I write a discursive essay for English Home Language?
