Prepare for IMO with a visual teacher
International Mathematical Olympiad: every topic on the syllabus, explained out loud with live visuals by a 1:1 AI teacher that stops when you interrupt and checks you got it.
The exam
What is IMO?
IMO is the International Mathematical Olympiad, an olympiad exam (Worldwide). Held annually with teams from across the world, the competition consists of two papers of proof-based problems drawn from algebra, combinatorics, geometry and number theory, with no calculus required. Solutions are full written proofs graded by coordinators for completeness and rigour. Countries select teams through national rounds such as India's IOQM, INMO and training camps, or the AMC, AIME and USAMO in the United States. Medals go to a share of participants.
Who takes it: Pre-university students selected through national olympiads, who represent their country in a proof-based mathematics competition held each year.
What it tests
IMO subjects and sections
- Algebra
- Combinatorics
- Geometry
- Number Theory
Ask any topic from any of these and the tutor pitches the lesson to the exam, with the terms and the depth it expects.
How to prepare
Studying for IMO, step by step
01
Prioritise
Olympiad problems need proof-writing skill, so practise writing complete, justified arguments and have them critiqued, not just finding answers.
02
Practise
Study the four areas systematically through well-known problem books, and keep a notebook of techniques such as invariants and extremal arguments.
03
Avoid the traps
Past national olympiad papers are the realistic path; progress through IOQM-style problems before attempting IMO shortlist questions.
04
Ask, then watch
Type or say a topic in your own words; the tutor plans a storyboard, one picture per idea, and explains it step by step.
05
Interrupt and check
Say "wait, why?" mid-explanation and it answers on the picture; a checkpoint question ends every lesson.
06
Your papers
Upload past papers and notes so the practice follows the exam, and use Test Lab for graded tests.
Ask it anything
Questions IMO students ask
- Explain the pigeonhole principle with an olympiad problem.
- Teach me how to prove inequalities using AM-GM.
- How do I approach a functional equation problem?

Questions
Asked, Answered
Can LetMeTeach help me prepare for IMO?
Yes. Ask any topic from the IMO syllabus and the tutor plans a lesson pitched to the exam, explains it out loud with live visuals, stops when you interrupt, and asks a checkpoint question. Olympiad problems need proof-writing skill, so practise writing complete, justified arguments and have them critiqued, not just finding answers.
Can I use my own IMO past papers and notes?
Yes. Upload PDFs and images, such as photos of class notes or a past paper, up to 3 files per session and 10 MB each, and the tutor grounds the session in them. Test Lab adds tests from a question bank and AI tests, graded on the server.
Does it teach in the language I study IMO in?
LetMeTeach teaches in 26 languages (including English, Hindi, Mandarin and Russian) and plans the lesson in the language you choose rather than translating it. The Free plan includes 7 hours a month with no card.
